Fat Tuesday Celebration; Feb. 24th

On February 24th from 6:00 – 7:30 PM, Meito Christ International Church (MCIC) will have a Fat Tuesday Celebration.

Fat Tuesday, known in French as Mardi Gras, is a custom celebrated in a variety of ways all over the world.  Many people are familiar with events in Rio de Janiero and New Orleans but those are only a few ways in which Fat Tuesday is celebrated.  This generally minor celebration began as a way to use foods such as eggs, milk, and sugar, before the fasting season which began the following day on Ash Wednesday (Feb. 25th) and lasted all of Lent.  In general, Christians observing Lent emphasized eating plainer food: for many this meant no meat, and for some, no food prepared with dairy or eggs.  Therefore, rich ingredients were cooked to use them immediately prior to the commencement of the season of Lent.

MCIC will have waffles and pancakes with a variety of toppings available and will be serving from 6:00 – 7:30 PM.  A freewill basket will be available; proceeds will go to HOPE International.  Volunteers are welcome to help cook, serve and clean up.  Favorite toppings are welcome.  Food items that are part of your cultural celebration or that you would like to share are welcome.  If you would like more information please call 052-771-5267.

This Fat Tuesday celebration is the beginning of MCIC’s observance of Lent.  We will have our annual Wednesday evening dinner serving soup from 6:00 – 7:00 with an English language worship service from 7:00 – 7:45 PM.  These Wednesday Evening Lenten services will be held weekly from March 4th to April 1st.  MCIC will have a Good Friday worship service on Friday, April 10th at 7:00 PM.
